Can this game (Arena) be played offline?
« Thread Started on May 7, 2009, 11:07am »

I can't find anywhere that says if this game can be played offline or if it has to be connected to the internet to play. I have the lite version and love it and will get the new one if it can be played offline.

And is Arena an upgrade to the Beginning or is it a totally different game?

You can play the lite version (free) offline and there is not too much disadvantage. You will want to get online once and awhile to sync your account with the online servers to make sure you don't lose your saved game if something happens. But IIRC you can play it mostly offline.

The arena is an upgrade and you get to make a ghost (similar to a racing game with a best time ghost car) that is your top score in 1:30. Then you can duel other peoples ghosts. Doing this gives you honor points where you level up daemons which add abilities when summoning/dueling.

Overall if you like the game it is worth it. But arena is more internet dependent because you need it to duel/summon. So if you almost never have a chance to get on, you will need to first get internet, then buy the game ;D

Ok, thanx. The only place I have wireless internet is at home, and I was looking for a game that I can play away from home.

So maybe I should get "the beginning"? I'm assuming that the lite version is crippleware and will let me only go so far, right?

I'm not 100% familar with the lite version, but from the screen shots on the app store but I think the only difference is the ads between lite and beginning. Both have the newer weapons and chat system.

With lite, as far as I know, if you are offline you just don't have chat. You can still finish the game (someone correct me if I am wrong here) and use all the features. Same is true with beginning.

Arena has summoning ghosts and dueling ghosts, as the main difference. Worth it but you need an internet connection to access these features. If you like the game, consider buying arena because you can still do all of the same offline things (blueprints, tower puzzles, mining) and when you are near a starbucks or other internet, do summoning/dueling.

You can and probably will want to transfer your character if you upgrade, you only need 1 of the following (lite, beginning, arena). Having more than one of these screws with your ability to save your progress online.

Ok, thanx! That's what I needed to know.

I am a CNC machinist and sometimes the parts I'm working on have a run cycle of an hour or more, so I'm just sitting there listening for a cutter to break or get dull and being extremely bored. I've been looking for a decent game to play in the meantime and this one looks like the best one yet.

I'll go ahead and buy The Beginning to help fund future games even though it's the same as the Lite.

If you're going to buy anyway, and if you haven't already done so, you may want to consider just buying Arena. It contains all of The Beginning within it, and adds extra features to it.

The online part is something that you don't *have* to participate in, but it's there if you want to.

You can still play most of the game offline too, if you want to.
