Even though every time I updated the game I lost my progress I found myself starting all over again and working my way back up. But with this update(which I lost my progress again) I find really boring I have not played in awhile. It even promted me to find this board to see what is going on. Its not really fun to play and the tools dont help any more. If the tools to dont assist in leveling up why level up? I hope to see changes soon.

before theconfuzed1 posted the way he was able to get major combos i was hating the game. it just wasn't how it used to be in the first version. i was also skeptical about how you could get such big chains. i gave it a try and it reinvigorated my love for the game. you keep climbing up, 5x, 8x, 13x. i get really excited when I'm able to make such big chains.

I love the new combo system. I always had trouble making combos before, but now it seems more accessible. The challenge is still there... I can't seem to get the Mastery levels so obviously the new system doesn't make it too easy.

bring back the old combo method. when blocks fall down and create another match without you doing anything is called a chain normally, not a combo. in a game like this, a combo should be about speed. there is nothing that promotes speed in this game anymore, its all about planning and more planning, which, in my opinion, its not as fun.

And again I want to emphasize the fact that the Tools and level-up us now completely meaningless which kills the point of playing the game. I have to say that making chains with the new system is interesting but not for this game. It should be a separate game with different goal (like getting the best score instead of leveling up tools that only stay in the way of getting better chains).
I played this gane with new chain system and was able to make good ones, but now I don't want to play it anymore as there is no reason to get my tools better.
Very sad. I'd sy it was the best free game for iPhone and now it's not.

Just my two cents: I love the new combos. Before I started with 1.1.0 I had a x154 and I just updated and grabbed a x46 in my first level. Although I see why tools can do some damage, I think you can use them to your advantage if you properly plan ahead. But I can say I would LOVE to see tools needing 4 blocks (3 and then the tool). I'd write more but I'm on my iPhone and we know how annoying that can get. My laptop is down atm so if anyone wants screenshots drop me an e-mail! ~ Scathe

Here's my view:
It's great in the Mining Game. Not so good in the Smith. Why? Because you're under time constraints. You don't really have time to waste precious seconds figuring out combos.

for what its worth, i quit the game when the system changed because I was frustrated that all the skills I had built up playing the old system no longer worked.
but now that I came back to it, i actually like it better. it requires a bit more thinkng now to set it up, but once you get the first combo going, then you can still take advantage of the old system of arcade style dexterity. so i'm pretty happy with the balance. so that i can get up to x8 multiples pretty regularly, though not as easily as before. but can still do it.

I've seen that sentiment repeated by many people here. I have completed every smith challenge using no tools to test that out. I actually have video of myself finishing a level 8 blueprint, with no tools, and a glitch in place which prevented my multipliers from moving beyond x6. I'm going to edit the video, and post it here within the next couple of days. The chain system works as an excellent strategy in the smith.

Maybe they could put in an easy and hard mode to accommodate both sides.
I get that some people might want more strategy, but I use it more as a casual game and with the combo system i get frustrated and stop playing.
So an easy mode with the old play system for me and a hard mode for more hard-core players.

It would be nice if some chains could be made from 1 swap that makes two rows of blocks disappear.
Right now, I find it hard to get chains unless I'm specific about it, and even then they can easily get ruined.

As an avid player of Tetris Attack back in the day, this gameplay is so much better since it requires actual skill and quick thinking to get some good combos going. Definitely a good change

I would have to agree. There are mining sessions that last too long and never finish. The blueprint combos are just not there to help you advance. It's really become rather boring just mining all the time without seeing any progress. I couldn't put it down when it first came out but now I hardly ever play.

The combo system in Arena works much better for me than Beginning. Strategy is still a must, but now you have more options for setting up chains.
