The alchemist is currently my favorite summoning weapon, but I have two complaints.
1. If I use alchemist with a filled screen, I can lose (due to the screen being filled) even though the alchemist is about to cause blocks in every column to go away. I wish this wasn't the case. Maybe the little circles from the alchemist could go out sooner?
2. The visuals are a bit misleading once the circles hit the blocks. At first, they barely look different from normal blocks, so it's hard to start planning my combo-continuation. Then, they barely look different from empty spaces, so I try to move blocks into them (instead of instapopping first) and fail. I wish the visuals were clearer, like they are for normal matches.

You're not planning properly. If you're using a four-way alchemist, you still have the color in the center remaining. As the pieces begin to explode, align the remaining pieces so that they will fall together, and continue your chain. Here's a big tip--If you tap a matching block, it will disappear immediately. That works on pieces that are exploding in the air too.

True, with four-way alchemist I can easily keep track of the "remaining color" myself. But I have enough trouble setting up three-way alchemists that I didn't want to force myself to learn how to set of four-ways

It takes a lot of practice, and a bit of patience, and even when you get good at it, it can take multiple attempts to get it right.
