I have posted this in response to another thread, however since there are so many threads with the same crach reported, I think it is sensible to report this in its own thread, to hopefully help out as many people as possible.
I think it is fairly safe to say that almost all the game crashes reported currently while minig are as a result of two tool blocks being one on top of the other as blocks appear from the bottom of the screen.
If you see a tool block in the greyed out section at the bottom of the game board and there is another tool block directly above it, move that tool block so it is not directly above it. Having done this, I have not seen any crashes during mining.
If your game does freeze, take a screen shot, and look at the bottom of the screen. There is a very high likelihood that you will find 2 tool blocks on top of one another.
Taking this simple precaution will prevent almost all the issues currently seen during mining, and allow you to enjoy the game again.

This crash is easily reproducible and always locks up the game. It's especially apparent at high levels when the frequency of tool blocks is high.

Hey, you're absolutely right. My AF crashes every few hundred crystals – extremely annoying and making it by far the buggiest app I've downloaded. But from all the screenshots I have of my crashes, it seems that every one of them is a case of tool on tool.
Will be very happy if this bug is fixed on the next release.

hah, you are so right. I always got so frustrated at the freezes, that I never looked at the screen that closely. Now that I know, I've only crashed once since i read your post earlier today. (I got a little careless pulling up new rows and didn't see the darn hammer under my finger. oops! too bad i was almost at the end of the level.) Playing has once again become fun. I was about to put the game down until an update came out, b/c I just couldn't finish a level w/o crashing.
of course, now that I know... I am terrified of the tools, and try to pop them as soon as they appear. I guess it's a good thing that I accidentally ended up w/ 100,000 crystals the last time i tipped my ipod while i was mining. now i don't need to worry so much about making combos.

WOW! You are so correct on this. I kept wondering why I was crashing during mining, especially in the later levels of the game. And at my latest crash I looked for the grayed out tool beneath another tool and sure enough there it was. Thanks for the info and hopefully this will get fixed in the next update!

It just crashed for me AGAIN, so I came to the forums to see what's up. This is the exact problem, and now I know how to prevent it.

Just to let you know Danielle has found and fixed this problem so no more issues from this when the update comes out. In the mean time, you can continue using the tip above to prevent the game crashing.

This is a very useful tip, although it makes me really angry when I just barely miss moving the piece and I'm about to level up. Glad to hear that it has been fixed for the update.

Won't there be a fix for this eventually? It seems silly we have to alter play to keep a game from freezing that shouldn't be freezing in the first place.

Danielle and Jason submitted the update with this fix to Apple at the weekend... we're just waiting for it appearing in the store.
