I was having the same startup issue and decided to go all out and... it worked! Here is what I did: 1. Deleted the application from iTunes and then synched with the ipod touch to delete it from there too. 2. Reinstalled the application on iTunes and then synched with the touch. When I started it up it went through a little scene at the beginning (beautiful artwork) which I don't remember on the first time through. Then it let me play the game just fine. It also remembered all of my levels etc.

Unfortunately, I can always play the game after a re-install, but never after I quit it the first time. I've submitted my log files, so I'm hoping all the clues will lead Danielle & Jason to the answer. I can only imagine the insane amount of details they get to wade through, having just started down the iPhone application development path myself, I'm clear it's not an easy task, especially when you start mixing audio & animated graphics with online databases. My general productivity certainly won't improve once they figure out the trick, but I'll be happy to pull through a few games/levels now and again after the next release. ;D

Interesting, since for me 1.0.1.0 has never crashed yet. I wonder if it has to do witht he device: I have an iPod touch

Jason, I have an iphone 3G 8gb ver. 2.0.1 and have had the same crash issue ever since I tried this game over a month ago. Still have the crash on the loading screen back to the springboard.

I'm still crashing .. bummer .. but would like to know for the future when it's back up & running how people put their names and characters in there. Maybe mine crashed too quickly after the recent update for me to figure this out. LOVE the game and can't wait to start playing again. Addicting!

updated to the new version, still not loading. ever. not a single time. tried many variations on resetting etc. I've installed and tried 1.0.0, 1.0.0.1, and now 1.0.1 and still never once gotten past the loading screen. zero playtime so far. /sigh.
Going to try the deleting and reloading via the onboard appstore tip rather than syncing with iTunes....but seriously, wtf. Game sounds very interesting, but considering how consistent my issue has been since day one, I'm beginning to wonder what could possibly be going on and what else might be "wrong" with how this app is coded. No other app Ive ever tried has had issues like this.
edit: deleted and reloaded from APpStore app directly from phone. Crashed on first load. Restarted phone for no effect. Reinstalled via Itunes after phone restart. Still crashes first thing. Giving up until a new patch...

I had to start from zero after installing the update and after playing one time, it repeatedly crashed.

After the most recent update, I was playing ok for a few days. Then started getting the out of memory warning and crashing every time i exited back to the map. So i deleted the game and then reinstalled it through the iphone 3G. Now it wont launch at all.. goes past the intro video and then shows connecting to database, then crashes and exits to the iPhone menu. I have not been able to play at all no matter what I try. I deleted and installed through iTunes as well with the same result.
Oh and before the endless start up crash. My first time using the newest version, i got the memory low warning so I hard reset my iphone 3G and launched AF again as the only app running. That gave me the same low memory warning almost immediately after booting up AF. Now i get no message since it never boots up fully.

The game played fine at first. Then it started crashing. Then not starting at all. After the update, it worked fine. I started getting the "low on memory" pop-up, so I cleared up 1.5GB of free space. (I figured this explained the crashing from before.) It played fine, then it started crashing again. First after playing for about 10 minutes, then 5, then at startup. Now it won't open at all.
I am using a 16GB iPhone 3G.

has anyone else actually had to restore their phone after playing? I'm curiousbid this is a widespread problem or not. Since the last update I've had nothing but problems. I typically can't get past the load screen. I've only been able to actually play the update a couple of times. The only thing I've been able to do is to sync with my Mac to reload the software. Then the first time I start the game after the sync sometimes works. I tried this a few days ago again because of crashes. This time it really crashed. I turned on the sync with my Mac during the night because it takes so long. Sometime during the night it crashed everything. My phone wouldn't even turn on. It showed the Apple screen constantly. I couldn't get it off and it would not turn off. I tried restoring it, but it would not even show up in the list of resources to choose. It also took down iTunes which I had to reload and remove the preferences. I took the iPhone to the Apple store and they couldn't fix it either so they exchanged it for a new one.
