Aurora Feint Starters and Reference Guide
[Last Updated: Sept. 7, 2008]
For this to apply, please make sure you have updated to the latest version of Aurora Feint. You can do this by going to iTunes, the Applications tab, and clicking 'Check for Updates' in the bottom-right corner.
The current most-recent version is, as of Nov.13, V 1.2 .
What's New in ... V 1.2
1) A new "World" icon has been added- Only plays exciting music...for now
2) Fixed bugs, presumably
This were some highly confusing questions, so I've featured them here.
LISTENING TO YOUR OWN MUSIC
To do this, first, go to the Settings icon. Then, scroll down to the bottom, find the AF tab.
Tap it once, it should take you to a screen. There, turn SOUND EFFECTS and MUSIC to OFF. Now, you can listen to your music.
Q: The game is "The Beginning." Is there plans for the next part in the series?
Yes! The devs have announced plans for a new, paid app called Aurora Feint: The Arena.
Q: Can I post spoilers?
A: Currently, the devs discourage you from posting spoilers in a public thread. However, if you are really stuck, feel free to PM eliu87 or anyone else who has said they are open to helping people. [If you want to help, you can PM eliu87 and I'll add you to the list of 'people to contact']
Q: Are the devs making money out of this, and can we donate?
A: As far as we know, the devs are not making any money out of this. Currently, the devs have not commented at all on the financial side of the game, and have not set up a public Paypal or similar donation account. Some members have tried sending money through PayPal to daniellecasselly@gmail.com, Danielle's public email. We have no way of knowing whether this works, so try at your own risk.
User Interface
There are four areas in Aurora Feint, the Mine, the Tower, the Smith and the Store. To access one of these areas touch the corresponding icon on the map screen. If there is a particular area that needs your attention, the area will pulse/glow.
The Mine
This is the main part of the game. In the mine your objective is to collect crystals in order to buy blueprints and then use these blueprints to build equipments and tools which will help you become more efficient at mining. The crystals are divided into 5 different elements – Wind, Water, Shadow, Fire and Earth. For more details on the mining game see below.
The Store
This is where you can purchase blueprints and magic books. Blueprints are used to build equipment and tools which improve your efficiency at mining. Magic books are used to give you multipliers for certain blocks in the mining games. To activate a magic book once purchased you need to visit the tower and solve a puzzle.
Before you can buy blueprints or books you must unlock them by levelling up in the mining game. You can unlock one blueprint / book per level.
Blueprints and magic books cost a number of crystals to purchase which is shown on the screen. If you do not have enough crystals you will not be able to purchase that blueprint or scroll.
Note that scrolls are currently not implemented.
The Tower
This is where you activate any magic books purchased in the store. To active a book you must solve a puzzle and have the right number of each resource required by the plan. The puzzles show a number of coloured circles which you must get to match up within the given number of moves. For example let’s pretend the below puzzle must be solved in 1 move :
X0
0X
X0
In this case you would exchange over the middle X and 0 by dragging and this would solve the puzzle.
Note : If you fail to solve a puzzle you will lose the resources and you will need more resources to try the puzzle again.
The Smith
The Smith is where you build blueprints. To build a blueprint you need to have the required number of element blocks collected through the mining game (see below). Once you have selected the blueprint to build you have a limited amount of time to collect the number of element blocks shown at the top of the game screen.
To help you in the Smith mining game you can choose 3 Tool Blocks (see below). To use one of your 3 tool blocks double tab on a block on the screen.
Gameplay
Mining Game
Your objective in the mining game is to collect as many resources as possible by matching element blocks of the same type. When you match 3 or more of the same element block that group will explode and you will gain the equivalent number of crystals. Blocks appear in rows from the bottom of the screen at a set rate (which can be changed as you level up to be faster or slower). To move the blocks you have several options :
1) Drag and drop. Use your finger to drag and match the blocks. When you drag a block to a new position it will swap positions with the block in that square.
2) Tilt the iphone. If you tilt / turn the iphone to the left and right the blocks will fall in that direction. While the iphone is turned on its side you can still drag and drop to create matches.
3) Turn the iphone upside down. Similar to above this will turn all the block upside down.
If the blocks reach the top of screen on any row the mining game will end and you will be returned to the main map.
Leveling Up
Every time you match a number of element blocks you gain experience. As you gain experience the experience bar at the top of the screen will increase. Once you have filled this bar you will go up one level. Every time you go up a level you can choose one skill area to improve from the following .
Dreameater
Furie
Strategist
Alchemist
Time Stopper
Sorceror
For more information on tool blocks see below.
Note – The first time you increase one of the six skills areas you will unlock that tool block. From this point onwards you will start to see these tool blocks appear randomly in the mining game as blocks. These tool blocks allow you to increase you mining skills and start raking in points !
Combos
Apart from basic matching of 3 or more blocks it is also possible to increase your score by creating combos. A combos happens you chain together more than one explosion of 3 or more combos blocks. Below we have a very simple example using Earth and Shadow blocks :
ESSENCES
There are five essences, or blocks.
Fire block- represented by the red fire icon
Earth block- represented by the green leaves icon
Shadow block- represented by the purple crescent moon icon
Water block- represented by the blue water droplet icon
Wind block- represented by the dark gray wind icon
Combos
Here if you swap around the middle two Shadow and Earth blocks a chain of two is created as both the Earth and Shadow blocks are then matched. As you string more and more chains together a multiplier is applied so that you receive more blocks – e.g. if in the third chain of a combo you explode 3 wind blocks you will get 3 times 3 wind blocks – i.e. 9 wind blocks in total. Combos are a great ways to rack up resources, but take planning to setup.
Tool Blocks
There are 6 different types of Tool Blocks in Aurora Feint. To unlock each one you need to spend at least one point in that skill area after levelling up. You can then power these blocks up further by levelling up, purchasing the blueprint you have unlocked from the store (see above) and then completing this blueprint.
To activate a tool simply match two of the same element blocks with the tool block. Here are details as to what the tool blocks do :
Time Stopper :
When activated stops the blocks from moving up the screen for a small period of time. Useful for planning combos. As you increase this skill the time the blocks stop for will increase.
Furie :
When activated any blocks around the matched area will glow for a short period of time. If you can create a further match with these blocks within the time period you will get a x3 bonus for the matched blocks. As you level this tool up the amount of time the blocks glow will increase. For example, if you get a Furie and you make a combo of 3 glowing blocks, you would get 3x3=9 blocks.
Strategist:
When activated any blocks around the matched area will glow for a short period of time. If you can create a further match with these blocks within the time period you will get a x2 bonus for the matched blocks. As you level this tool up the amount of time the blocks glow will increase.
Dreameater :
When activated this block will detonate a given number of blocks which surround it. As you level this skill up the radius of the blast will increase, destroying more blocks.
Sorcerer
When activate any blocks below the matched blocks will also be destroyed. As you increase this skill the number of blocks destroyed below the matched blocks will be increased.
Alchemist:
When matched it will destroy all other tools on the screen of the same element type will be destroyed. As you level this tool up the tool gains extra abilities.
Equipment
Some blueprints can be used to build equipment which will help you in the mining game. Explanations as to what each piece of equipment does can be found in game.
Note : All equipment is automatically equipped once built in the smith. There is no stacking effect with equipment and the best version of a piece of equipment is automatically equipped. The devs are working on a feature that would allow you to customize your character by allowing built equipment to show up in the character picture.
About the Game/Story:
Q: I am completely NEW to the game. What is it about?
read www.massively.com/2008/07/14/mmog....e-expectations/
Q: This isn't an mmo!
OK. "The Beginning" is kinda like Tetris/Bejewelled... but it will evolve to an mmo.
Q: Is there a story?
The Intro says the following:
What is it that seperates reality...
...from fantasy ?
For one little girl...
...the only way to survive our reality...
...is to live in her fantasy.
So for those who aren't very good at poem reading, basically, we can assume that AF is a little girl's fantasy.
More will be revealed in a feature, yet to be released, called scrolls.
Q: Can I see the opening trailer/cinematic again?
There are two methods:
1) Reset your character.
or
2) Go to the following link.
hk.youtube.com/watch?v=P3oKr2h96Cg
The devs are working on a feature that will allow you to replay the cinematic within the game.
Music
If you like the game music, I believe a member of the forum has turned the various sounds into ringtones for your phone. Use the search tool to find it. [Can someone find it and give it to me or a mod to post it here?]
About the Game Mechanics:
Q: What moves are available?
horizontal move: tip and hold a block with your finger and move it horizontal
rotate: flip your i phone to see the gravity change
restock: to get more resources into your area: "pull" the bottom line with two fingers
shake: Since rotating your device spawns new blocks, you can also spawn them by shaking your device.
Q: Where can i find examples for the basic moves?
There is an excellent article by babajaga: aurorafeint.proboards100.com/inde....283&page=1#2584
Can a mod please copy the article and paste it here?
Q: Is there a pause control?
If you push the pulsing back button in the upper corner of the game it will pause and take you to the summary view. From there you can choose to resume the game at your will, or exit the game.
Q: There are not enough blocks for blueprint XY?
Get more blocks (See "restock" at "What moves are available?")
Q: I can't use the party feature?
The community feature has been disabled in 1.0.1.1 and is under construction.
Q: How do I use tools?
aurorafeint.proboards100.com/inde....246&page=5#7240
Once again, can a mod please paste the article here?
Q: I keep popping blocks but I NEVER level?
Well, if you have NEVER leveled then there is a problem with your character on the server side. You will need to delete/recreate it.
If you are simply stuck after leveling a few times it is probably because you have not purchased the newest blueprints/magic books. Re-open AF, go to the store, and purchase the available blueprints. If there are none, then go to the Smith/Tower and verify all blueprints have been solved.
Q: What are scrolls?
They tell the story of Aurora Feint...but are not out yet.
Q: How come I am still 'Category Enlightened'?
There is a problem currently where people will 'cycle' through category Enlightened, it seems to be the limit at the moment.
Q: I don't see any Tool Blocks? What are Tool Blocks?
Tool Blocks are unlocked with blueprints (or earning tools).
Q: I can't solve a blueprint! The requirements are too high!
The devs upped the requirements in 1.0.1.0. They are working on reducing them.
Q: I can't solve a magicbook!
Some magicbooks are very hard. Try tilting the phone (WARNING: counts as a move), writing the puzzle out on paper, or searching through the forums for hints.
Q: What does 'Most Blocks Popped' mean?
This refers to the most blocks you have popped in one single move.
Q: Is there an index of skills?
stuffetc.de/AF/inventory/index.php
Can someone verify the link is active?
Q: Which choices do i have on which level?
Go To aurorafeint.proboards100.com/inde....play&thread=284
Can someone verify the content and paste here?
Q: Is there a list of puzzles?
Yes: stuffetc.de/AF/inventory/puzzles.php
Can someone verify the content and paste here?
Q: What is the difference between Furie and Strategist?
Furie gives you a x3 multiplier for the blocks of the same essence as the ones popped.
Strategist gives you a x2 multiplier for the surrounding blocks.
So if you pop two fire blocks and a Furie, all fire blocks will temporarily have a x3 bonus. If you pop two fire blocks and a Strategist, all surrounding blocks will temporarily have a x2 bonus.
Other
Q: I read something about spyware stuff?
This is only true for version the outdated version 1.0.0.0 :
It DOES send your unencrypded contacts when you say "refresh friends data". I dont think it is stored.
aurorafeint.proboards100.com/inde....play&thread=315
In version 1.0.1.1, your data is no longer manipulated in any way .
Q: How can I adjust the sound settings?
Go to Settings>AF.
Q: Why does it require an internet connection?
Once installed you could technically play this game withou an internet connection. BUT: The upcoming Party features won't work and you don't have a backup of your gamedata. If the game locks up and you have to reinstall it you will lose all your achievements.
Normally it tries to sync at every gamestart, levelup and when you leave the mines. (no guarantee but my experience)
Danielle: "In a future release we will try to have feedback about whether your current stats are or are not synced. "
Q: My game hangs on the loading screen and the crashes?
You need to turn off your iPhone/iTouch with the button on the top of the phone and then try the application. If you still cannot start the application try a fresh install.
Q: I can't read the full item description, why?
This is a current issue with the 1.0 build. The Developers mentioned that this will be fixed in the 1.0.0.1, for more information check out aurorafeint.proboards100.com/inde....play&thread=164
Q: My blocks are all jumbled up and get misaligned, is this normal?
Well unfortunately it is normal right now, but it is an issue that has been fixed with the 1.0.0.1 build.
Q: My blocks get really big sometimes, and stay that way.
This should have been fixed with 1.0.0.1.
Q: How do I get my own avatar/signature for this board?
Go to stuffetc.de/AF2/ and follow the instructions
Is this link working?
Q: How do I post a screenshot?
Go To aurorafeint.proboards100.com/inde....203&page=1#1285
Can someone copy the content here?
Q: How can i rename/delete/reset/transfer my account?
rename: go to character summary page and scroll to bottom.
reset: go to character summary page and scroll to bottom.
transfer: currently cannot be done
Q: What is "iMmo"?
It seems to be the working title and project name for "Aurora Feint"
Q: Is this game free?
Its currently free to use. To date, all updates have been free. However, we cannot guarantee in the future the game will continue to be free. The devs have yet to comment.
Q: Does this game have any tutorials? What is going on?!
There is an improved tutorial since V1.0.0.1. You can always check here!
Q: Where can i find crash reports?
Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<devicename>
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<devicename>
Mac: <username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mobile Device/<devicename>/
Currently, you should zip them using WinZip, WinRar, or similar, and send them to daniellecasselly@gmail.com.
Can someone verify?
Q: Where can i find my device ID?
Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\roaming\Apple Computer\Lockdown
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\Lockdown
MacOS X: ~/Library/Lockdown/
It is a string of 40 characters, which should be the name of the only .plist file there.
Can someone verify?
Easier way:
1) Plug your device in to your Mac/PC
2) Open iTunes
3) Find your device under the 'Devices' category
4) Go to the summary tab, and at the top of the screen, it should say name, capacity, software, etc.
5) Find the label called 'serial number'
6) Click 'serial number', and it'll change to display your device ID
