I'm pretty much in the boat of people who have bought The Arena and have yet to enjoy any of the features I paid for.
Since buying the game on the first day, I have not been able to create an account. My local character was never able to upload onto the servers.
I just downloaded the latest update and that broke the arena. Restarting didn't work, so I just deleted the game and reinstalled. Of course, that made me lose my character since it never uploaded. It's great fetching a level 0 character off the servers.
And now, i am STILL having the same issues where it is not letting me register with my gmail email address. Is this a bug? I'm using the same email from iTunes and this forum. I am hoping an email addy that those places accept will also be accepted for game registration.
Basically, I have yet to play the game I paid for and I'm extremely upset.
Here's what I like answered.
1) Can I not connect to the servers with just 3g? Seems to only work on wifi (though I have not tested since latest update)
2) Why does my gmail address get rejected as not valid? It's just alphanumeric @gmail.com so there is no crazy formatting or anything.

I have the same problem with my email address. Poor gmail users I have connected to the game with 3G and edge before. Never had a problem with that side of it.

That doesn't change the fact that AF doesn't like simple gmail email addresses.
I tried again with another of my email accounts and it told me "Email not Unique". I must have made another character before with that Email?
I tried again with a third email, this time a hotmail, with no dots before the @. It told me that it was not valid.
I guess I'll have to get another email account with a name that AF likes.

i just tried with my work email. It is rejecting that as well and that's nothing but letters. So basically the game is broken for me. There must be some odd sync issue.
I don't believe I created an account before. I've tried retrieving my character with my typical email and it says I don't have an account, but I can find it using my UDID.
Also tried deleting the game from phone, from itunes and restarted the device before redownloading and resyncing.
I've done everything I could on my part, so the game is entirely broken and unplayable for me since i CANNOT register and there is no option to play without registering.
Registering, by the way, seems entirely uneccessary especially considering that EVERY DEVICE HAS A UNIQUE IDENTIFIER.
We should only have to register if we wish to transfer a character BETWEEN DEVICES.
Seems like this process was not thought out properly.

I think they just need fix what it thinks is a valid email address.
Eg: *@*.* maybe?

Silly,
I contacted Danielle directly via email and she fixed some stuff on the backend that was messing things up. I'm going to guess you're having a similar issue and should give her a heads up.
Just pass along your UDID and character name and she should be able to set you up.
