This is outrageous if true! And indeed it does tell you about the App store’s Quality Control… This should really be reported because this would be a case of major privacy infringement which can only be used to a malicious end.

That data is used solely to link you up with people in your contacts list that are also using it. They use it for the party-based aspect of the mmo.

Hi Moderators. Hope it's ok to copy/paste from a previous thread. The original message from Danielle in the "Community" section seems to address this quite well. Please read following:
Re: Community « Reply #1 on Jul 12, 2008, 2:11pm »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently the community feature is for seeing your friends stats, and comparing how you do in comparison. You do not need to sign up outside of the community page. We ask for your telephone number an email address as a way to match you up with people that you know. We compare the phone numbers and email registered in your address book to the ones registered as playing our game. We don't store your contacts we simply push you information relating to the people that your device (either ipod or iphone) has registered as knowing. Both emails and phone numbers are compared. You do not actively manage this list. In the future there will be many features associated with you being able to do things with your friends as well as hopefully making new friends through the game. Except for the fact that the phone is more likely to contain more contacts there is no benefit to having the iphone over the ipod touch for this feature. « Last Edit: Jul 12, 2008, 2:12pm by Danielle Cassley »

I guess its just shocking how easy that data is collected. I mean, I would hope the developers would never sell that information, but how are we to know?
blind trust?

I understand your paranoia and shock at the moment, but calm down and post in the top thread that is titled 'Latest on AF missing from the App Store'. There, you can write your submissions and Danielle and Jason can improve it.
