Go to your iPod's main menu -> Settings -> General -> Sound Effects -> Turn them on. I think iPod Touch users are only going to hear them in headphones anyway.

Yeah, the new version has the sound set to OFF by default which is being addressed in a hotfix here in a few days. Supposedly you can turn it back on in the in-game settings, but I've searched the entire game UI for these "settings" and still no luck. EDIT: Ah, that's what I get for paying attention. When the update installed, it said the settings for the game were near the bottom of the settings menu for the iPod itself. Here's a tried and true solution, worked for me too: aurorafeint.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=world&action=display&thread=1026

Both my music and my sound effects toggles are ON in the Settings App but I still don't hear either music or sound effects through the earphones on my iTouch.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem, but it was me being silly that caused the problem =-P It turns out that most games have their own sound settings - If you go into the game and turn up the volume while in the game (after the initial loading screen) it has its own volume setting. This was my problem, might help you!
