I think ultimately this is my biggest wish. Your product is amazing and it's defining the future of gaming on the iPhone mobile platform. Stay as a free product. Donationware, perhaps, though I doubt that that'll be permissible on Apple's App Store policy.
Please stay free.

I second that.
and, for the first time I used a free app, I feel like I want to support the developers...maybe it's possible to make "donationware" via AppStore by providing two versions of Aurora Feint:
- Aurora Feint (for free) - Aurora Feint with Donation ($10)
which would be the same program, but with a different price. only a suggestion, because I don't have a PayPal account or a credit card, and live in Germany.

There's nothing more motivating to a developer than being asked to work for free or being paid only if the client feels like it. Please, have enough respect for the developers to stop this thread before they start feeling their app is only good if it's free.

I think the original poster started the thread to support the decision of the developers to make AF free. I think the benefits of being free are clear. if Danielle and Jason make more game chapters in the future that are not free, or decide to charge for The Beginning some day, the game will still be great, and I would still recommend it to everybody. I'm a developer myself, and I have coded both for money and for free. I can respect developers that code for money, but I can love the ones that do it for free. celebrating AF freedom today doesn't hurt anyone, I think

I utterly agree with Murphy. I'm learning Objective C (Used to use C++, more powerful, but not Cocoa accepted), and Objective C is a hard as hell language to learn. To do -this- much work for free? Utter and complete respect to the Dev's.

Please, have enough respect for the developers to stop this thread before they start feeling their app is only good if it's free. I'm utterly insulted and disgusted by this assumption. What I feel the devs have done, is showcased in a package what the iPhone/iPod Touch can do to more people than ever before. Not all iPhone users have jailbroken their devices (and not to get off topic, but the 2.0 jailbreak hasn't been released at all, yet) to see what amazing apps are possible to be installed. And ultimately, this is better than what was available through Installer. I don't want this to go into a jailbreak themed thread. I am not aware of the tone or stance that the devs have decided to take on the future of their application, and by no means do I mean to infer that it would only be good if it's free. It's merely a plea. As nice as it would be to keep it free, it's understandable that people need to eat. Free is a "wish". Wish list. Get it? Not "It's only good if it's free." If it has to go into a pay-for-play app, please keep a demo available with a limited number of features or limited minutes of game play, just to showcase your talents. Please. See? That's a plea. A wish.

Uhm. Notice it's called "The beginning"? It's definitely a great game, free or not, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't have payed for it without getting to try it out first. I'd say they could let the Beginning stay free, and charge for expansion packs? I dunno but they're straight out of college, and if theyre like most people their age, they have student loans to pay off :s

In my opinion the title should be: Please charge for expansions etc. I wouldn't have a problem to pay for such a great game, since it's better than most of the other games, in any case better than Bejeweled 2, which costs about 10 $. So they can charge, probably they have to, to improve the game.

I agree, they should charge for expansions, or faster exp or something. Else they don't make ANY money, and seeing how it costs $99/year to even host it.. (Not counting site, etc) it'd be unfair not to get paid for their work (or even getting their money back).

I would love to pay something for this game, $5 in donationware, or the second version or what not. Whatever you guys are doing, keep working hard, all this talk wouldn't happen if people didn't love your game! Can't wait for the update with even more functionality.

i would gladly pay $15.00 a month for this game same as my wow subscription if updates were provided regularly and more ocntent added via updates. I mean its a MMO there are very few good ones that dont charge anything that a great and there are even less ones that are good that dont charge monthly. In my opinion I'd keep it free until more of the MMO features come into play then slowly work your way up on how much you charge for the game. You can charge a specific price for updates as far as im aware so if you made updates regular like every two weeks and maybe charged $5.00 for each update give or take to your desire. If this games goes the direction the devs have hinted at i really do believe it will be worth it.

I have a suggestion. Why not pay for the game by advertising? The current version can stay the way it is, but the MMO can be paid by advertising. The loading screens are one suggestion.

I disagree. Personally, I really like this game, and I would like for it to continue evolving. For that to be realistic though, the developers need to be able to benefit from their hard work. The Beginning is free, and that makes sense. It's like your first hit of a powerful drug; the first one is free, but if you want more, it's time to pay. I would suggest that the updates to the current version remain free, as they have been, but any future updates, progressing into different worlds, or new objectives, be made into a paid upgrade. Remember, that doesn't mean that it will cost a lot--As long as it is good, which this is, people will continue to download. I don't think that it would be unreasonable for future expansions to cost $9.99.

I don't know about the rest of you, but in Canada, we can only purchase apps through credit cards, as iTunes gift cards aren't accepted, due to 'sales regulations'. I don't want to use my credit card for iTunes, so hopefully AF will stay free, because if it doesn't unless iTunes changes it's policy, I might have no choice but to simply quit... However, I completely support an option to donate...maybe Danielle and Jason could set up a PayPal account or something ...they've got my donation if they do...
